To go to Gili Trawangan, you can go through Bali or Lombok. If you depart from Bali, then you can take a fast boat from Padangbai Harbor for a 1.5 hour journey and will immediately get off at Gili Trawangan. If you want to travel cheaply, then you can take a ferry from Padangbai Harbor to Lembar Harbor on Lombok Island for 4 hours where to go to Gili Trawangan, you have to go to Bangsal Harbor first.
The second way is via Lombok Island where you can use the air route and enter via Lombok International Airport. From the airport, you have to travel to Bangsal Harbor or Nara Bay. You can also go to Senggigi using a fast boat from Bali.
Most tourists actually prefer to travel through Nara Bay. The reason is, the car park to the speedboat area is very close. Meanwhile, from Bangsal Harbor, you have to walk first or use cidomo to get to the pier.
Well, from Nara Bay, you can rent a speedboat with varying prices (based on the minimum number of passengers). Actually the easier way is to use a tour package for Gili Island trips because later you will get a transportation service so you don’t have to be confused about how to get to Gili Trawangan island. However, if you are a beginner or it’s your first time diving or snorkeling, you can join a short two-hour diving training. There, you will also receive theoretical and practical directions on the same day.
You can also watch Stick Fighting or Presean shows. It is a traditional ritual of the Sasak Tribe which is the original tribe of the island of Lombok. There is a procession where there are two men who fight using rattan sticks and are equipped with buffalo skin shields. The event is held to ask for rain and is always held at Gili Trawangan Art Market during the seventh month of the local calendar.
In addition, you can also visit the turtle hatchery. The turtles are indeed hatched in captivity and will then be released in the sea off Gili Trawangan. The procession of releasing the baby turtles also uses certain rituals which are certainly very interesting to watch.

Right from the start with comms via WhatsApp I got a very friendly and hospitable vibe. I did two dives, it being early in the season I got my divemaster Omar as my buddy and we dove just the two of us. He is a great divemaster, and I felt 100 % with him. All the other guys are extremely friendly and chatty. Equipment is provided and it is in very good order and well maintained. Boats are simple but perfect to the purpose. We did Shark Point and Turtle Heaven and were lucky to see shark and turtles (its all down to luck, isn’t it? No guarantees in the ocean). Visbility was superb and hardly any currants. I cannot recommens Trawangan Stingray Divers more, its a smaller outfit than many of the other dive centers on Gili T - which I find prefeble as it makes the experience more personal and tailored to the individual. As a person recently returning to diving I was looking for a professional, friendly and chilled operator to do some dives on Gili T. Trawangan Stingray Divers (TSD) certainly met and exceeded my expectations and were happy to customise dives to suit my needs. Started with two dives on day one and was so impressed that I came back the next morning for two more dives. Great variety of dive sites within minutes of Gili T by boat. All diving gear was included as well as catered lunch post-dive. Photography package was readily available and a special shout out to Andressa for her awesome underwater photography and videos skills, the photos and footage were amazing! RSOctober 28, 2023“Give me some fin…dudeee” #spicy We took a fun dive with this dive shop and overall it was a great experience. We went out to Bounty Wreck and Aziz was our instructor/guide. He was full of energy and great fun to be with. We got onto the boat just outside of their shop (walked to it from the shore) and they were blasting music to/from the dive site and taking pictures. They also threw in use of their go pro for IDR 100k and it was appreciated. Although, it did run out of battery part way through the dive! One downside is that they didn’t fully check the equipment pre dive as one of our tanks didn’t have the air turned on. Of course its a joint responsibility to check equipment when you’re an experienced diver, but its something that was a little unnerving before jumping in. The dive itself was great, we hung out with the giant turtles (no joke, they were just lying there and we were right next to them) and after the dive they provided some lunch as well. Overall a great experience and would recommend diving with this crew.Verified

The staff - Ahmed, Shaker and Azis were awesome. As a solo traveler and first time diver, I was really nervous but the teams passion and knowledge made me feel at ease. They invited me along for a sunset boat ride (which was a highlight) where I got to enjoy the views and water whilst some of the others did a night dive. I felt really comfortable with the crew and they were a good laugh. Azis playing his guitar was a bonus! I did the Discovery Dive the next morning, saw turtles and sharks and loved it so much that I ended up doing another dive that afternoon. The diving centre is on the quieter side of the island which also made the entire experience much more enjoyable! An absolute must do if you visit Gili.Verified

Everyone from this diving center is here to make the experience as good as possible, starting from diver master Ahmed to all the local people with a permanent smile, they adapt easily to our schedule, have the best most recent gear. I went in 3 dives with another diver and everything was tailored to what we wanted to see. Contrary to other large diving centers where large groups are ferried together in big boats to diving spots, here it was the amazing Ahmed, a crew of 2 helpers, and me plus the second diver on a fast dinghy. The diving is from another planet, crystal clear water, it’s like diving inside an aquarium with all the fish we can imagine, turtles everywhere, even white tip reef sharks. Although we arranged to go diving very last minute and were slightly apprehensive as we hadn’t been diving in while, this was by far the best diving set up we’ve experienced. We were made to feel so comfortable, the equipment and boat were very modern, and Ahmed was the perfect instructor. All in all, it was an absolutely incredible diving experience! 10/10 🤿🐡🐢🐙🐠
JiayiFebruary 10, 2026Trawangan Stingray Divers is hands down the best dive shop on Gili. We did three dives with them, and each one was completely different. On dive 1 at Bounty Wreck, we saw the wreck at 18 meters—absolutely stunning with amazing coral and fish life, plus a fish hole full of tiny baby fish that had just hatched. Dive 2 at Halik Reef brought us to shark hole where we spotted three sharks, and the colorful corals and fishes at around 5 meters were beautiful with crystal clear water and incredible visibility. Dive 3 at Turtle Heaven was my favorite—the mushroom corals stretched endlessly without any gaps, so surreal, and we saw lots of turtles, though they seemed a bit lonely swimming solo. Honestly, we didn't get enough! The center is fantastic with top-notch gear and they filmed so many great videos for us. After diving in Gili, I realized OW just isn't enough—we really need to get our AOW so we can explore deeper sites like Shark Point next time. A small regret from this trip!

Jordi LloreDecember 29, 2025Amazing dive center – perfect for families! We had an incredible experience with Trawangan Stingray Divers and highly recommend them. Our 10-year-old son completed his PADI Junior Open Water certification, and thanks to the instructors and staff, he completely fell in love with diving. They were patient, knowledgeable, and incredibly kind, making him feel safe and confident at all times. My wife did a Discover Scuba Dive, and I updated my Open Water certification. We saw amazing reefs and incredible sea life, including beautiful corals and a wide variety of marine creatures. The team was always very knowledgeable and respectful, especially toward marine life. Our 7-year-old son did the Bubble Maker in the pool and laughed the entire time. The staff were so patient and gentle with him—it was a perfect first scuba experience. At first, we stayed on Gili Trawangan, which was very convenient being close to the dive center. Later, we moved to Gili Air for a few days. Even though there are also great dive centers there, we still chose to keep diving with Stingray because of the bond we had created with them. They even came to pick us up by boat so we could continue diving together. From the boat captain to the instructors to the entire staff, everyone was welcoming, friendly, and fantastic with our kids. This truly felt like friends teaching us how to dive, and it was one of the highlights of our trip.

Jo was our instructor and was so nice! I was stressed out before some dives and Jo was very reassuring and took the time to explain everything! We dive 6 days in a row with them! Every morning, it was our routine to go there and it felt soo weird when we were done! We just went back to say Hi! 😅 We were almost alone on every dive and that was the best part!
